Dr Craig R Dufresne Named Senior Editor at Newly-Launched Academic History Journal

FAIRFAX—Dr Craig R Dufresne, MD, FACS, FISCFS, was named Senior Editor of, AppLAg: The Journal of Appalachian Local and Agricultural History, a peer reviewed, open access scholarly journal officially launched today and published by Moss Hill Farm LLC. Dufresne has previously held editorial duties, including as Section Editor at the journal, Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.
A world-renowned DC area rare disease specialist and cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgeon, Dufresne holds an agricultural degree, is an avid horticulturist, has experience in historical research, and has family roots in farming. In recent years, Dufresne also has been working in the area of Appalachian farming and local history, with his work resulting in two conference presentations (https://cdufresnemd.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/03/Moss-Farm_Poling_Handouts-ASA-Meeting-24.pdf and https://cdufresnemd.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/Moss-Farm_Poling_Handouts-SAH-Meeting-24.pdf) and a preprint, to date.
The journal, AppLAg, seeks to serve as a nexus between the academic community and the common man living, working, and farming in Appalachia. By fulfilling this mission, the Journal seeks to contribute meaningfully to preserving the local and agricultural history and heritage of Appalachia. The Journal’s vision is to be the premier forum for cutting-edge rigorous research and thought-provoking insights in local and agricultural history within Appalachia. The Journal is seeking submissions of original research; reviews of the secondary literature; historically important photographs, stories, traditions, and transcribed interviews; poems and short stories, and book reviews. The Journal is also inviting peer reviewers.
Moss Hill Farm LLC is a historic multi-generational Appalachian family farm that traces its origin to the Shenandoah Valley. The Farm is dedicated to historic preservation and hopes to encourage increased rigorous scholarly interest in local history and farming history within Appalachia. As an active agricultural operation, Moss Hill Farm LLC sells free-range chicken eggs gathered daily and non-GMO organic, heirloom, and conventional varieties of produce from their high tunnels and conventional gardens. Sheep and lambs are occasionally available.
Dufresne feels participating in preserving Appalachia’s rich agricultural heritage and embracing healthy, regenerative agricultural practices now being employed brings life greater meaning.
